I really enjoyed everyone's contributions this week while traveling in Zurich. Now that I am back home I can post mine and thereby bring down the average grade of our Large Cents. Here is my 1843:

I'd be happy to pop a Large Cent out of the ground in any condition, even that one, and it looks like that's where it came from. :)

I guess in my earlier days of collecting I must have sought out every ebay auction with a ground find or red-haired step child details coin minted in the US. It is nice to have so many dates now, but perhaps this can be a warning to those just getting started that rather than just filling holes, you should consider purchasing coins with fewer problems. Here is my 1842 Large Cent (large date), rim dings and all:

An 1842 Newcomb 1 large cent, which I brought back home to the US from a UK seller.
