I had a 10 day ebay listing up for 5 rolls of Mercury dimes as a BIN, then earlier today a promotion came up for 8% ebay bucks. The listing was in 2 categories, bullion coins and Mercury dimes under coins/paper money. I did not realize the buyers would not get the 8% off since it was also in the bullion category, so I ended it and put it back up under dimes/coins/paper money. when I check the listing I can usually see the promotion "Pay today and earn $xx.xx in ebay Bucks". "Includes Bonus Offer!!" Can someone verify on this listing that the ebay bucks is there for 8% savings? I don't see it. item # is 282406796713Thanks for any help! RK

Thank you flag4! Maybe because I relisted it and removed the 2nd category? grrrr. I should have started from scratch. I wonder if the roll of 1942-P Mercs shows the correct ebay bucks. That one I did from scratch earlier. Hopefully it is correct.

My ebay offer is $30.80. I often pass on coins in bullion category because I can get same coin 8% (sometimes 10%) off if they don't make it bullion. I have had buyers ask me to move something out of that category and into an ebuck qualifying category before. I obliged and made the sale.

Thanks crazyglue! That is the correct 8% off. I wonder why it is different for flag4? I usually can see it on my own listing but it shows nothing. weird...

Quote: I wonder why it is different for flag4? Probably he hasn't signed up to get the ebay bucks promotional emails or he didn't activate his coupon.

So now I have a question...as it could affect my BIN selling timing. Does anyone know what ebay population gets the 8% at the same time? Is it everybody, or 1/3 or 1/2, etc.? I always assumed that ebay might give 1/3 of the folks 8% one week, then a 1/3 8% the next week, etc. But this thread made me wonder if I have 8%, does EVERYONE have 8% at the same time?

The promotion is targeted to eBayers that ebay thinks will become more frequent buyers. The promotion usually starts around 10%, drops to 8%, then to 6% then eventually goes away. The idea is to "set the hook" and make you feel good about buying on ebay. They haven't sent me one in about two years.

Active buyers NEVER see these promotions, especially if their purchases are significant.

I had tailed off lately on buying, so it seems they target the buyers that have slowed down. I had a 10% off the week before and the 8% off now. It seems ebay also puts out these promotions towards the end of the quarter before the next cycle hoping buyers will rush to buy so they get the spendable amount in a short time. watch for another before the end of march....always seems to happen.

If I had to guess: I would say ebay has much more sophisticated software to determine who gets the incentives, when and under what circumstances, than they are being given credit for in this thread. Certainly they can afford to have advanced software and I would guess they could use big data to ensure they are using it in a predictive way. I have remained steadily quite active for at least six quarters without any appreciable dip in activity, yet I consistently get the offers every two weeks without fail. They have trained me to only make my big purchases during the incentives. They come so often I don't mind waiting.

It also seems the "offers" come more often toward the end of the quarter. Have seen at least 3 offers in March. Don't look for too many offers in April, as we will all be spending our 'bucks. Then in May, the offers should pick up again.
