I have these 1963 and 1964 Philly sets and just to make sure, these are proofs right? I believe the UNC sets have either red or blue stripes. Now that I have them, I'm unsure of what to do with them. I thought of adding the nickels to my album but there are no holes for these proofs and I already have pretty nice business strikes in there. I heard of the '63 dime DDR, but this one does not appear to be it. I don't believe the Franklin half is FBL. Is there anything specific to look for other than that? Maybe one that if graded PF69-70 would be worth opening? Thanks for any and all suggestions! While I won't bust open OGP slabs, I am a big fan of freeing coins from mint cellophane. If they were mine I would break them open and throw them in 2x2's. Side note...If you don't know what to do with the '63 set send it my way.

Quote: I am a big fan of freeing coins from mint cellophane. I'm thinking along the same lines. I like to preserve things as original but I'm not a fan of these cellophane packages. Although, if that Kennedy half could make PF70 then it changes everything. But, it would take opening it up to find that out. That's where I'm stuck. Is there any value to leaving this set as it is or would it be better to break it open and break it up?

With 64 and 63 in hand, my next step would be 62. Then 61. So far I'm back to 58. We're coin collectors, aren't we?

You did not mention the 64 accented hair variety. Did you check that? There is a serious premium there.

I'm with you, I have made it back to '56 and want to continue back but the prices get crazy.

IF you have any kids or grand kids, give them to them as a gift and you might start a new coin collector.

Spruett, why noy take them out and put them in the 5-coin plastic mounts, either the cheapy ones or go top dollar and get Capital Plastics ones?

Nope, no kids (so no grandkids either ). Considering the small size of my collection, I'd probably choose a clad proof set to gift anyway. The Capital holder isn't a half-bad idea. (I don't have the original mint envelopes, inserts) I like the suggestions to continue back and I think they would look a little more official in the holders instead of a plastic bag. Maybe I could get them to tone a little, too.

Gee...wonder what you could squirt on them to "help" them along with that toning in those plastic holders...

Hey! We can't both stir the cauldron over that. Who knows, maybe the air around here is a little more sulfurous. That could explain the smell from the backyard sometimes.
