I've noticed many Morgan's graded au-ms have so many marks on the obverses especially near cheek area. Why is this so common among this design and not others?

It's simply a matter of size. Dollars are very large and heavy coins, and the cheek area of a Morgan dollar is a large open area. They were dropped into bags one after another after being struck, and high points and open spaces are where you would expect to see bag marks.

Add to the above comment. These coins were stored in bags that were occasionally picked up and dropped or slammed down. The coins hit each other and most of them got marked up. If you were a laborer who was paid a buck a day to haul around bags of heavy silver coins, $1,000 to a bag, you had no incentive to gentle.

In Canada I heard a very funny explanation by a dealer who was answering a similar question, He stated "because the Americans made so many Morgan's they would move them with a shovel" I always found that to be a funny thought of mint workers with shovels scooping them into bags for shipping haha

There are actually records of mint workers using shovels on broken bags in vaults during inspection counts and with the Redfield hoard some bags broke open from dropping down the coal chute which were scooped up by shovels and dust pans.
Rest in Peace

Large silver coin, dumped into 1000 coin bags. Then tossed into trains and bounced across country makes bag marks.
