I have some questions about this 86D Lincoln. This year isn't typically associated with errors but I see doubling in the word liberty. Most likely it's a double strike(?). I think that's what it's called but IMO, this looks more pronounced than what I'm use to seeing. Please help, thanks!
Considering that this is a zincoln (all pennys made after 1982 are 97.5% zinc) I would have to assume this is either plating bubbles or DDD ( Die Deterioration Doubling)
So with bubbling or DDD it would have a clear image of a single letter twice? Zincs aren't able to do a legit double die? The B is the most predominately doubled letter.
Zincolns are able to be true doubled dies as well. I think the most well known one is the 1995 DDO: http://www.PCGScoinfacts.com/Coin/Detail/3127 I'm still looking for one of these. On your coin, I'd be inclined to guess plating issue since only three letters of LIBERTY have the issue, and they're in the middle of the word.
