Hello everyone,

This is my first post on the forum. I've been looking around the web for a couple of days and can't seem to find anything like this unique quarter I found in a $10 roll.

My wife brought this roll home from work. I opened it, put a few quarters in my hand and while I was feeding the machine I felt something odd in my hard. From the bit of research I have done it seems to be a Strike though, correct me if I'm wrong. It looks like Washington has an adams apple. The strike is through the eagles head. The quarter looks to be silver. Which is odd. I'm always on the hunt for pre 64 coins.

Let me know what you guys think. Looking to get some information.

thanks

KW

Looks to me like someone took a small screw-driver and attacked the eagle's beak. That punch pushed out the area you see on Washington.

You have a damaged non-silver clad coin. But keep on hunting!

It's just post-mint damage ( PMD). It took a forceful hit from whatever on the reverse and it pushed metal out on the obverse. As far as it being silver, that's unlikely but there are two easy ways to find out.

The first is looking at the edge. If you see it split between copper-colored and silver-colored, it's a clad (not silver) quarter. The second step would be weighing it.

The silver quarter should weigh around 6.3g and the clad (non-silver) should weigh around 5.7g.

I hope this helps.
