Today I went with my friend Bill to the South Shore Coin Club show in Milwaukee. I went looking for an AU-55 to AU-58 Capped Bust half dollar, or an MS-62 to MS-63 Liberty Seated half dollar.

I came home with this beauty, the most expensive coin I have ever purchased. It has full luster and great surfaces. I couldn't be happier.

It was only one of four nice AU Capped Bust half dollars I saw at the show. This was by far the nicest of the four.

There was an MS-65 1828 with the most amazing toning and luster, but it was just a BIT out of my price range. I didn't see any Liberty Seated half dollars in the grades I could afford.

Quite the coins at this show. One seller had a tray full of Proof Morgans and another had three entire tables full of high grade early US Cents and an amazing array of nineteenth century U.S. type coins in the highest grades. His coins included a Proof MS-68 1895 Barber quarter, part of an 1895 proof set. He didn't have the 1895 Morgan with him. When I asked he told me he had about $2.5 million worth of coins on display.

I'm now broke, but it was fun going broke.

That is a beauty. My favorite half dollar design. You should be hanging onto that one for a long time.

Nice coin, is that the edge lettering design or the reeded edge?

It's the lettered edge variety.

Very nice, to me, the edge lettering makes that series more standoutish than most other halves... Great pick up!

(Altho personally I find it EXTREMELY difficult to pass on toning!)
