Hi there

I'm hoping someone might be able to help me identify the coins in the below images.

Assistance-Required---Middle-Eastern-Coins

I believe the writing is in Arabic but I'm not sure abut the country of origin or the age of these coins.

Any insight is much appreciated.

Cheers,

Have you tried early Indian States, one of the earlier. Don't think that's Arabic script, maybe tho. Dots make me think further east in area, posily Tibetan/Siam?

Those look like tokens to me. The closest thing I could find to the square ones was an army canteen token from Egypt, but one side is completely different while the other is fairly close (and it is octagonal). However, the one in the link below has a denomination of 20, whereas the ones posted have a denomination of 10, so maybe that explains the differences? But still, with that one side being the closest I could find, I am thinking they are from Egypt. Hopefully someone else can either confirm or disprove that.

I agree that the inscriptions are Arabic and agree that these don't look like coins. @Joseph's canteen token idea looks reasonably close to me--sorry that I can't further refine the attribution.

@crazyb0, from wikipedia:

Quote:
Many letters look similar but are distinguished from one another by dots (i'j#257;m) above or below their central part (rasm). These dots are an integral part of a letter, since they distinguish between letters that represent different sounds. For example, the Arabic letters transliterated as b and t have the same basic shape, but b has one dot below, #1576;, and t has two dots above, #1578;.

Thanks for the comments.

@Joseph - Egyptian army canteen tokens look and sound about right.
I'll give google a whirl when I get back from work this evening to see if I can dig up a bit more info.

I would be of the belief that these are retailer tokens, best guess Egypt late 1800's early 1900's
