Sorry... I wish I had a better setup but I'm only 10. :/ And I can't afford a really good camera or a really good light.

Quote: .. (my iPad and a stand to put it on made out of books) I use an empty box. Anyway -- The weakness on the D might be due to some grease on the die. I think I see an tiny lamination error just to the east of the MM, just below 08. It appears to be retained and flattened under the 0. However, it might just be a hit with some displaced metal. If you can't get a better pic, you'll have to figure that one out for yourself.

You can try lighting with a flashlight or table lamp. All of my pictures are taken with a phone on a box (for full coin pictures) or my phone on a book (whenever I use my microscope app). I'm not sure if it's an option with iPads, but I'll sometimes turn on my phone's flashlight before opening the camera app. It does tend to lead to excessive brightness, but that's better than excessive darkness.

Hi Brian ... You're about the age I was when I started collecting coins, over sixty years ago! You've got a keen eye there, and I hope you stick with this rewarding hobby. There will occasionally be discouraging moments, but if you strive to learn from others and get coin books from the library, you'll profit greatly, gathering coins, interesting times and some lifelong friends, too. As to your find, your posting, Brian, I think I'm seeing some graffiti, scratched writing, above the date. If that's what it is, it's PMD or Post Mint Damage, inflicted by someone whose hands this coin once passed. Do you think it's graffiti?

@Brian .... Do I see graffiti there, above the date on that cent, or are my old eyes playing tricks on me?

Sorry about the fact that I didn't respond in time... I had to go to bed so mom said I could reply tomorrow (which now is today) I was going to say I don't see any graffiti on it.
