Thought I would share a coin that has been in my collection since being pulled from a new roll back in 1999. I kept the coin in a flip and knew it was a die break but didn't think much about it until I noticed it's sister coin was featured in the Strike it Rich with Pocket Change. The quarter in the book was used as an example and is the only other example of this die break I have ever seen. After seeing the/my quarter in the book, I sent mine off to be graded and encapsulated. Anyway here it is enjoy...

Nice find! It looks like a different die break though. While placement is the same, the VIRTUIE in Cherrypickers has a break that reaches the bottom of both letters. Yours doesn't reach the bottom of the E. I don't know if Cuds on Coins catalogues these in addition to their LDB "BIE" listings, but I think you've found the 002 die break!

Nice find, and cool story! It looks like an earlier die state or completely different die than the one pictured in Strike it Rich with Pocket Change.

Yea I know the one in the book goes down further but was thinking mine might have been an earlier part of the die chipping out or something. Anyway thought it was pretty cool that coin being used as an example in the book of die breaks for Statehood Quarters. I looked around the net and could never find another example of that break until seeing it in the book. Just kinda thought it was neat.

That's good to know. I don't "collect" US per se, but I have been taking a closer look at my store change for some time.

Cookiemonster I have no clue on value, I just had it slabbed because I thought it was cool and had an order going into ANACS already and thought why not send it along. I printed out the book pages and sent them in with the coin. They sent the coin back along with the pages. ANACS labeled the slab "VIRTUIE" on their own, which was pretty sweet.

So this quarter is only worth $2 according to the page. It also says while die cracks, missing designs, Die Deterioration Doubling etc, sell for considerably less depending on the state. How is that possible? Are there many die cracks, missing designs, Die Deterioration Doubling thus bringing down their value? I would think this die break would be worth more then $2.

I agree its probably worth more than $2 but sometimes the value is just in the joy a collector has in owning the coin. I have very expensive coins in my collection but I also have some cheap ones that I personally really enjoy.

I found a clipped cent when I was just a girl of 14 years old. I kept it in my jewelry box for about 45 years. I didn't know what it really was but as soon as I found out about error coin and I had the chance, I got it slabbed. It was my first error coin and I love it.
