Metals are down and most of my available funds are tied up in coins I already have or precious metals. Just venting...

Your coin investments (unless strongly tied to bullion) shouldn't be affected, even if the PM market were to crash.

Yeah I guess it depends on the mix. If his collection is mainly "junk silver" coins then the value will go up and down slightly on a day to day basis. At least they will never be completely worthless like stocks can become as they will still have their face value. The trick is to hold on for the long term because in my opinion (and many others), silver and gold is expected to go up nicely.

My key dates aren't affected but I also went on a buying spree on silver, gold and platinum bullion the last few months. I understand the ups and downs and risks involved so that's not the issue. But now that money is tied up, I can't shop for coins anymore and I'm not about to sell the bullion now bacause I see brighter days ahead.

I think I know what my problem is... I'm addicted to buying ! The hunt for the coin, the bidding (or bargaining), the tension of winning an auction, it's habit forming.

Sikevo............
We ALL have that "urge".......the battle is containing it and making proper well timed and thought out purchases that don't harm your personal budget too drastically!.....

p.s.
for those "coin collectors" who've never heard of the word "budget"...it IS located in the Websters Dictionary in the "B" section !.....(that's where I found it !...Ha Ha)

Coins are every bit as addicting as drugs.

At least that's what I've heard, I've never bought coins before. Just kidding! You know it's really the other way around.

Coin collecting is an addiction, but you have to be an addict first. Go to the watch forums, or wines, stamps, cameras, furniture, guitars... You will always find similar souls "suffering" from xas, where "x" is the object and "as" stands for acquisition syndrome. How many Leica lenses before the divorce, or where to find that perfect Patek Philippe? I like to, or need to rotate my collecting, so I don't drown in any particular obsession, but I always come back to the ones I love. (And if you know where that watch is...)

Skip the therapy, spend the money on coins instead. Much more satisfying. Lets just call this 'Group.'
