This nickel has a blob on the right side of the building with a die crack running from the blob to the rim. What would cause this? Also appears to be Machine Doubling under and to the east of the steps. Thanks for any and all advice!

I'd say it's a die chip at the end of where the die cracked.

Thanks nickelguy. Isn't that an unusual place for a die chip?

I'm no expert at errors, just my opinion from reading stuff on here. I do think die chips are common enough and I would think that the chip came before the crack on the die. It would be neat to find another with the same chip but no crack for a progression set.

A die chip is inside the rim and a Cud is at the rim.

It is a place to expect a die chip. Next to a device. The ones on the tops of the highest devices happen less often. But they are next to the devices is where they happen the most.
