I headed out early this morning to metal detect at one of our Lutheran Bible camps in southern Wisconsin. It's about 50 miles from my house. I got out there three times last year and found three silver dimes and an 1873
Indian Head cent.
My trip almost ended before I got there as I hit a full-grown wild turkey going 70 mph on the Interstate. I never saw the bird. I was glancing to my left and it must have run out of a ditch along the right side of the road and right into me. Things did not end well for the turkey, but fortunately, my car was not damaged with the exception of a cracked license plate frame and a bent license plate.
I took a shot of the grill of my car decorated with turkey innards and the like. I plucked one very nice feather out of it which is now our new cat toy.
This was quite something since just last week we had a flock of turkeys wander through our yard.
Things were much nicer at the camp. It was a beautiful spring day and I had the place to myself. I found two silver Roosevelts, only my third "two silver" day in five years of detecting. I also dug up three Wheaties including a well-worn 1917. Fifteen clad and Memorials rounded out the hunt. Most of the coins came from around an outdoors worship area with benches set into the ground. I suspect that in the past there was another set of benches there that have now been replaced and kids dropped coins there back in the 1940s and 1950s. I've pulled five silver dimes out of this one area now.
