Anyone know how to do this? It's a very cool effect.

Republican denarius, I think.
But I think I've seen many similar pictures of other coins too (just can't recall where).

Yes. Here's the description from the seller:

ROMAN IMPERTORIAL, Cn. Domitius L.f. Ahenobarbus. Uncertain mint along the Adriatic or Ionian Sea. Rome, 41-40 BC. AR Denarius, 3.66g (17mm, 6h)

It's high dollar ($6k) but I like the lighting and the floating, 3D effect that allows you to see the edge.

I'm sure someone here talked about how to do it but I can't find it.

The coin is on a pedestal and lighted so that shadow appears. The rest of it is computer art.

The shadow is fake. The coin is cropped and placed into the background and the colors of the background are such that it appears 3D. Photoshop trick.

You've done some good coin photography. Do you think there is too much manipulation in the photograph? Is it deceptive?

Thanks for the complement. The coin itself was photographed very well, all looks good to me. The background is just to grab your attention and possibly distract from the coin somewhat. I prefer a simple contrasting background over fancy stuff to showcase the coin.

The technique for isolating the coin from its background and placing it on another sometimes makes use of a luma matte, but it can also be done with chroma key. I think the latter is generally more familiar to most people.
