Thank you for that link Nancy. I don't sell on E-bay but already some of my favourite sellers have told me they will no longer be listing. Hard for me to get to a coin dealer so E-bay has been an important part of my obsession.

Already familiar with oztion, and thankfully some of the sellers I deal with are moving there. Would be great if that site kicked off in a big way, being Australian and all.

Not sure what on online petition is supposed to accomplish. It's really no different then those that circulated as spam in the late 90's and early 00's.
The only way to get things done is to have enough of a majority that it actually hurts them. Their profit margin is large enough that they could loose every single seller that refuses to accept PayPal and they'd still be drinkin the bubbly in guitar shaped pools
If Wal*Mart stopped taking checks the general public would be forced to get a check card or pay in cash as a sheer means of convenience.

I'm not sure if the petition will ever be sent to ebay, but I hope it will be. When I signed this morning I was #1930 & it's over 2600 up to 8481 now. What if it ends up with millions of people lodging their protest? Surely it might make them sit up & take notice. It costs nothing to register your signature, so if you don't like the new rules, at least do something to try & have them changed.

What are/is the reason(s) for the new policy? As an Ebayer, paypal is my choice of payment method, buying and selling.

j_h_s, here in Oz we don't like to be told what to do. E-bay has said we have to use paypal period. So we don't like it. It is merely a money grubbing exercise. They receive fees for using paypal. Here in Oz, we don't like to pay fees we don't have to. Most sellers prefer direct deposit, no fees.

It's denying sellers the right to indicate what type of payment they will accept. When this new rule comes into effect, it's PayPal or nothing! The vast majority of buyers here in Oz prefer to do a direct deposit to the sellers Bank A/C & the sellers appreciate that because they get their money very quickly. The main reason for its introduction is pure & simple GREED. Nothing more. ebay are basically trialling it in Australia & if/when it brings them in a whole heap more money, guess what, it'll become world wide policy. It will mean higher prices for buyers if sellers pass the extra cost on to buyers via increased P&P, & who can blame them for this? More sellers fees therefore less profit for sellers, so the ONLY winners are ebay. Some Aussie sellers are quitting ebay already & finding alternative sites to list their goods. Eg; 'Oztion' (Aussie owned) & to a lesser extent 'TradeMe' (NZ's answer to ebay). I've never sold anything on ebay, but have bought quite a lot & I'll be doing my utmost not to put any more fees into their pockets in future.

That's a much nicer way to put it Nancy. I don't sell and I am still peeved. As sellers leave, it is harder to find quality coins.
