I've seen pictures of this order form before, and one popped up on ebay last week. I made a best offer of $6.00, and the seller accepted. This is so cool, and it's nostalgic to consider that my dad filled one of these forms out and sent it in before I was even born.

I scanned the front and back of the form and took pictures of the inside pages.

You are killing me. We were all going to get RICH ordering those in our names, parent's names, spouse's names, dog's names... anything to get our hands on coins that were SURE to be a big winner.

Today you can buy the brown box and blue envelope Ikes for not much more than we paid back then (esp. if you include shipping and handling...)

That's really cool! Though it reminds me of my old bill/statement books for my car loan.

I actually remember reviewing one of these with my grandfather. I was 9 years old. According to an online inflation calculator, the 3.00 pieces being were sold at 18.00 value today. The ten dollar ones being sold would be 60.00 today - yikes!

I am glad we did not go for them back then.

Oh I remember those. You notice on the first page where it warns you that it may take several MONTHS for you to receive your coins. They weren't kidding six to eight months was not unusual. Sometimes it took much longer. And unlike today they cashed your check immediately, there was no way to get any information about your order, and you couldn't cancel the order. People used to report in the letters to the editor in Coin World how long they had been waiting for their orders. Like I said 8 months wasn't unusual, I remember some reports over a year and a couple as long as two years. The record was for one of these 71 proof Ikes. The guy finally got a notice from the mint that they were sold out and not available and that they would be sending him a refund, soon. He got the notice in 1977.

Thanks for sharing this, Conder- very insightful. It just goes to show how different it was back then. I need to ask my Dad about this. Maybe he'll remember how long it took him to receive his Ikes. When my brother and I split his collection we ended up with 2 sets each of the Blue Ikes.

I love hearing stories like this. I wonder if he ever got the refund. I would have kept that notice. It's just crazy.

So people would send the order form in, with payment, and then several months later they would just show up in the mail. A different time, indeed.
