I am not sure if this is the right place for this discussion so sorry. Can anyone tell me if there is anything that can help this coin? Is there something that PCGS can help with or is it a lost cause? It looks like it was in a fire and is very dark.

I'm no expert, but I'm guessing this one will always be a "details" coin no matter what is spent to improve it. Shame - this is the only S-mint "no motto" Seated dollar.

Great details. Wish it was mine, that would be fun to experiment with.

Conservation service by NCS might improve the appearance and might be worth a try. As noted, it will probably still be a problem coin.

I'd try some acetone or "Coin Care" on this piece ... no down-side.

NCS is a good route to take, but be ready for the cost.

Oh no, Your coin in its original state was sulfur damaged. Heat could ave been involved but "fire" damage looks totally different. The morons at NCS (a service I have always highly recommended) have ruined your coin. It was worth more before they got a hold of it and took your money. Judging from your coin and what I have started to hear about NCS, they have some "rookies" cleaning coins now. I have heard that the Director of NCS now spends a lot of time grading foreign coins rather than doing the mundane day-to-day conservation. Such a shame. This is definitely not good advertising!

The fact that they took your money and sent it back like this without comment is most discouraging.

I have reached out to the management and they have offered to refund me all of my money and have offered to try and correct/or make better. What have I got to lose by sending it back, it is pretty much worthless in the state it is in. I am really amazed that they sent the coin to me without discussing it before hand or even talking to me before they tried to do anything to it. They must have known that it would not turn out better than when I sent it to them? I guess it was a gamble I lost!
