Did anyone else catch the April 1st CBC show where they explained we were getting a Three dollar circulation coin. It sounded very realistic, for an april fools joke. It was apparently supposed to be in circulation by August, and was nicknamed at the mint the "threenie."

I watch the CBC on television and listen to it on the radio. On top of that I download about 10 CBC podcasts to listen to while I'm at work. I wouldn't put too much stock in the threenie story. The next step would be to replace the 5 dollar bill with a coin.

I actually listen to a show here called "As it happens" produced by CBC. I would've enjoyed hearing that um...prank?

Judging from the "language", and comparing notes, I assume, (which is BAD business, normally), that the "Loonie" is a dollar, and the "Twoonie" must be a two-dollar coin. The "threenie" being a joke, or april fools day prank, would indicate my thinking is correct. I am not familiar with the coinage, other than the cents, or more correctly put, the decimal coinage. I don't know anything about the half, and dollar, and/or larger coins, much less the terminology. Having rad a post by Andre1621 conserning a possible "struck-thru", I know what they are referring to when they mention a "loonie". Apparently taken from the Loon, there. Now: The "Twoonie" would indicate a 2-dollar coin, with the same device, (loon), right?

Actually the Twoonie has Polar Bears on the reverse. Twoonie comes from the value of the coin being that of TWO LOONIES. I always thought they should have put a pair of two male deer on the reverse so it could be called the Two Buck coin.

now that sounds logical! The "prank', as Kurt calls it reminds me of a bill we refer to here in the US. It isn't in circulation, but it would be "ODD' if it were. I'm sure there is something similar in the Canadian currency.
