Just my opinion but I thing the depiction of T.R. On his horse was poorly done. I just got this from a coin roll it's the first one I have seen and I notice that both reigns on the horse run to one side of the horses neck and then disappear into the main and never even make it to his hands and also there is a bunch of rolled up rope that should be tied to the saddle but instead is actually rolled up under the saddle. Maybe a little research before the engraving would have been good. Again just my opinion. Any thoughts?

I never remember seeing one of these either. That is a pretty bad job. But the people who judge the designs cannot be familiar with everythying. Face it, the people judging these things are likely more to be from a city and have never ridden. Its like most times you see on cards, in story books, in cartoons, etc. pictures of what is supposed to be an deer and yet it will have totally inaccurate antlers etc.

Very true earle42. I just find it odd to not put in more research when it's going on a coin that is American currency. Kinda like if the Canadian mint put an oak leaf on their coin lol.

That is funny (and sad). I always wonder how things like that make it to the production line without someone along the way saying - "hey, that is totally wrong"

Does this look familiar?

2016-Theodore-Roosevelt-Quarter

If you look at the artists rendering the rein goes right into his hand.

I know nothing of horse tac and it still doesn't look quite right but a little better than what the OP first thought.

Taphandle if you look closely you can see the double reigns going up both sides not just one side and the both go straight to the hands and not through any sort of clasp. He is also riding an English saddle and no one would ever wrap up rope and put it under the saddle it goes on the side attached with leather strings.

Maybe riding with the coiled rope under the saddles is how they got named "The Rough Riders"?

Once again, the shaded sketch looks a lot better than the struck coin. I wish the renderings were done with less detail, showing a better picture of the coin - I think the advisory committees would come to different conclusions if that were done.

I hated it so much I just nabbed a Silver PR70 for $13.52. It's on the way.
I really don't hate this coin. In my opinion, it is one of the better ATB designs so far, not the best, but not too bad despite the rope issue.

It gives me something to ask the grandkids what they see wrong in this picture.
Actually, I am a much bigger fan of Teddy than I am of FDR. I think he was a no nonsense tough guy when he had to be and had a lot of fun when he didn't have to be.

Here's the stock photo, but I'm expecting a brighter coin. The seller has 6 digit 100% feedback with zero negatives and zero neutrals in the past 12 months.
I can't figure out how a silver graded PR70 quarter can be had for that much, with the cost of a graded slab included, and with free shipping. I'm not complaining.
