About a year ago I was in Halifax Canada on vacation and I made sure to stop into a coin store my time there. When I was looking around the owner started telling me about this coin he had and I guess trying to get me to buy it. I remember liking it but I totally forget what it's called. I remember it was older, 18th - mid 19th century. It also had an old sailing ship on the reverse I believe. But what was special about the coin was that if the the ship had a Union Jack flying on it then it was worth a bit more as it was far less common, or it was vise versa. Lastly it may have been around the size of a half dollar. Any idea?

PEI Ships Colonies and Commerce tokens of the early 19thC had flag varieties.
Perhaps it was one of these.
Hope this is of some help.

Alex, I don't know the answer to your question, but I suggest that you look here:

to find the answer. Certainly not exhaustive catalogs, but at least a good place to start to find your coin/token.

Would be surprised to find one of these in Canada, but maybe it was a 1892/1893 Colombian Exposition Half Dollar?

A New Brunswick One Penny Currency 1854 has a sailing ship on the reverse with a flag on top the mast, that may be the one you seen.

Thanks for all the help! I think it may be the colonies and commerce tokens. The way the ship is displayed with the large flag to the left does seem familiar.
