So this week I purchased some coins and unfortunately after doing research. I still managed to get burned.. so I'm sticking with what I'm more familiar and somewhat comfortable with. XD

So as I may of said before I live in a really rural area, where no one collects paper currency nor sells it.. so I feel like my only option is ebay? Are there other reliable sites or a place I might actually find good deals?

P.S Not a Facebook fan.. so many people lacking basic knowledge.

Sorry to hear that hapoened.

Just curious about how, where, by who you got burned?, if you don't mind sharing.

Unfortunately if you don't luve near honest and reputable dealers or coin shows or clubs then ebay is the next best thing...

I wouldn't trust buying on other sites and especially Not from strangers on social media.

ebay is a good option for certain things. Watch the "sold" listings for a good idea of FMV. There are plenty of eBayers that also have online stores. Online auction houses abound... read through the threads here on CCF for a wealth of knowledge.

Facebook isn't place to learn about coins/currency. CCF is the place. If you stick around a while, I'm sure you will have much less chance of getting burned again.

Coconutjoe.

I've learned so much in less than a year here starting from nothing. The most I've spent on a single coin thus far is about $45. I even posted that one pre-purchase for opinions. In the end, I didn't really take the advice and semi-regret it. I'll probably be selling that Peace dollar soon so I can get better coins. Lesson learned.

At this point, I would never buy a slabbed "Details" coin and I'm not sure I ever will. I can submit my own details coins.

No one gains the knowledge required to make better decisions without a few flubs along the way.

Using this forum for opinions will get you great advise for free.

I didn't really get burned I suppose, more or less paid retail. I really like having gold but it super hard to find coins for a decent price.. and for some reason I don't trust myself to buy scrap jewelry.

I have been on this forum for about a month now and have learn some very interesting and important information about paper currency.

Again Thanks Guys!

Have you bought the basic books on currency history, types, and values? This is a key place to start.

I have to agree with you. There are many knowledgeable and helpful members here at CCF.

But take caution Grasshopper, remember the famous Abraham Lincoln quote that states, "Not everything you read on the internet is true."

Baldridge, if you don't have some basic currency reference books they should be your next purchase(s)! IF you can find a Friedberg catalog "cheap" I'd buy it; otherwise you may want to wait a little while as the new edition is due quite soon.

Oh, you might consider venturing through auction archives of Heritage Auctions, Lyn Knight Auctions and other to get an idea of prices, etc.
Take the prices in the catalogs with a couple grains of salt.
Just a few ideas for you to pursue.
One more thought, use the "Member ebay Sales" and "Member CCF Sales" buttons.
