I have a 1955d wheat with an apparent off center mis strike. I just started collecting and I am not sure if both sides are supposed to be perfectly matched up or not, probably a silly question but any help would be great. Thanks.

The dies can be not aligned correctly making one side off center and the reverse normal. These are call MAD coins. (Mis-Aligned-Dies) When the devices fall over the edge, then they are collectable. Also the reverse side will be weak if the alignment is a collectable coin.
Off-Center-Errors-O.-Wheat-Pennies
A lot of the MAD coins don't show the devices falling over the edge, so these are common. Just the ones with the devices that fall over the edge are the keepers.
