I went through coin roll hunting. I found this 1982 D LMC. Copper penny. The date on it is part large and small. Lol the 8 looks like a large date and the 2 is shaped like a small date. I have two other LMC's to compare to it 1 is a 1982 D small date zinc and the other is a 1982 D large date copper. I weighed it, examined it over and over compared it. If this truly an error , I will be glad but I wouldn't k ow what to do with it.

1982 Small Date Copper

1982 Small Date Copper plated Zinc

1982 D Large Date Copper

I think its a large date and the 2 took a hit, which deformed the number 2 to look like a small date version. The height of the 1, and the bottom of the 8 both appear like a large date.
Scroll down about half way for side-by-side comparison: http://www.lincolncentresource.com/...es/1982.html

@Idacostya Technically, nine different varieties of the 1982 cent. Add the 1982 S proof and the 1982 D copper small date to your list. (Definitely one found, perhaps a second -- as reported by David Harper.)

@Lelah "Take a hit" means post mint damage. That was my initial thought as well. Aside from the difference in the shape of the 2, the dates are different distances from the rim. I believe the link posted above is more thorough in covering the differences.

As far as the number two at the end on the date. That's what I was saying it's different than the large date two. It looks like a small date 2. I know that the 8 on the date looks like a large date 8

Something hit the coin in the lower right side of the 2 that pushed the body of the two to the left slightly making it resemble the 2 on a small date. It is Post Strike Damage ( PSD) Does that make it clearer?

I respectfully add.... You should also read up a bit on how to properly handle coins.

Here's a start - an article here on CCF.

What you have is indeed a Large date,
Here is what I read in publishing recently:

Quote:
other than the larger and taller legends of the '8' and different curvature of the '2',it is much easier to look for the bald larger characters of the entire date and the significantly further distance they are from the rim.The "2" of the date is the most obvious : It is closer to the rim on the large date versus being noticeably farther from the rim on the small date.

When you see the two different type of date that year side by side, you will see that even the profile of the bust is different.

It is one or the other. There is no such thing as an in-between example. What I look for is the space above the top of the head next to the 'WE' on the motto. That also tells you what it is. Note the small date has a lot more space under the WE. Also they 'Y' on LIBERTY and the bust. More space there also on the small dates.
