Some kind of lamination error? I realize it's heavily circulated... just kind of interesting...

Needle-nose pliers job? Note that the marks on the obverse and reverse line up, as if the coin was squeezed.

It looks to me like it's missing chunks of the rim... and perhaps a section of his hair... and as the coin flips... the top of the front would show on the bottom of the reverse if they truly lined up... same with left to right... it's not lined up in that fashion... I could take another look though...

Looks like a little of circulation daamage ontop of some delamination.

I might tend to agree with that assessment... my only question about it would be that the fields should exhibit much more deformation in a case like that... either way it's still fun to look at. ;-)
Rest in Peace

I actually found one tonight that looks a little similar but, not quite and will have to take another look at it.

One thing to consider is when the damage occurred. With copper cents like this, it could have happened decades ago and then through circulation, the edges of the damage got rounded and smoothed. It sometimes gives the appearance of some sort of error but it's not. Just old damage, I'd say.
