I am new to coin collecting. I feel stupid for asking. But I just can't tell the difference.

I'm not understanding. The 1955 penny has a very easy to see doubled die obverse. Are you talking about less visible doubled dies? Please clarify.

Perhaps your thinking of the poor mans double die where only the last 5 has a shadowy appearance looking like it's doubled . One will have to be legally blind not to see the original 55 DDO .

Sorry. I'm looking for less obvious DD examples. I have so many questions and no answers. Google is no help at this point.

Now that we know you are looking for lesser DD, someone should be along with pictures or links to other threads.

http://coppercoins.com/advsearch.phpCoppercoins has hundreds of pictures of less obvious doubled dies. You can use the search options for a specific year and mint to see examples. Also try Wexlers site at http://doubleddie.com/Click on Doubled Die Listings, choose the type of coin you want, then the date. Lots of great pictures!

Google Is Your Friend. There are many subtle doubled-dies and all it takes is a search. As mentioned above, doubleddie.com is useful.

Quote:Can't get more real than this DDO. With my bad eyes I think this will be the only Lincoln Cent DD I will be able to recognize right away. Most of the time I have no idea what they are trying to show me on the Lincoln Cent DD listings. Anybody else have this problem? Coops photos here on CCF have been more helpful in these.

MontCollector, I am about the same. People mention DD, most times I don't see it.

Yeah ,same on this end ; hard for me to see some DD's that members post . Like someone will post a questionable DDO and I'm the first one to respond ,and I'll say " sorry , not a DD" . Then the next member will say ;congrats real nice DD pick up . So now I sit there with my thumb up my NOSE .
