I got nohope's opinion on this one before I bought. Based on the sellers pictures we both agreed on a grade, & I negotiated a price based on that. In hand I think the coin is slightly better than the picture shows. Both the sellers picture & my own show weakness in the horizontal shield lines, in hand the weakness appears to be dirt between the lines. What grade would you give this coin?

Here's a new obverse photo I took in natural light that is a lot better representation of the color. I also think the photo is clearer than the first one I posted. I'm interested to hear any new opinions.

I'll go along with an AU grade. The pictures are too dark to show fine detail but WE appears weak and there is minor flattening at the high points of some obverse leaves.

Is the color accurately shown in the photos? I don't think I've ever seen a 2-center with that shade of reddish-brown. I might suspect some kind of re-coloring was done.

AU. I'm not as worried about the color because the pics are underexposed at least one full stop. If they were brighter, the color would come closer to what I would expect of an AU coin. At least there's no pinkish tinge, which is nearly always the result of an old cleaning on copper coins, IMHO. Nice Coin.

I'm not seeing any sign of recoloring on this coin. Before I post a grade I'm going to try to get a good shot in daylight, & let ya'll take another look. Hopefully I'll get that done tomorrow.

The amount of wear in the horizontal and vertical lines of the shield could push it down into the VF range. Color looks much better in your new photo. Still a nice coin!

I believe this coin to be a VF30++, on a really good day it might squeeze into the XF category. After this round of coins I can see I need to be more careful with my photos. I know with a little extra effort I can get better pics, which result in better opinions.
