I have a 1886p Morgan dollar. While trying to figure out what VAM it was I ran into alot of issues. This coin has alot of die cracks (none of them listed on vamworld). It has faint clashing at the wreath and neck. Lastly the sunken dies shown on vamworld do not look to match what is going on with my coin. mine is more of a speed bump type ring all the way around on the obverse and reverse at the denticles.

D is the denticles and F is the field.

**The (?) Is what I am trying to figure out what happened or what type of error is going on.

The beginning of a "ridge rim"? Die Deterioration? I don't see anything extraordinary.

Maybe a case of "looking too closely" or "over-analyzing"?

Have a look at the VAM not assigned and VNA-1 links at the bottom of the 1886 page.

Yep Die Deterioration, same thing commonly seen on Zincoln cents. Some people think it is exclusive to the Zincolns but it can be found on any series. It is just more prevalent on Zincolns.
