Has anyone seen a 1913S Lincoln Penny with this kind of a 3 in the date. I can find no similar coin in the hundreds of photos I have looked at. Variety, forgery, counterfeit?

You need to get a bigger pic of just the coin and if you can a close up of the date.

That looks a little like the 3 from a 43 steel cent. If you could check magnetism, would help narrow down maybe

It is a counterfeit, no doubt about it. They never used that style of three on Lincoln cents until 1934, and then not again until 1943.

Here is another example from my archives.

Here is an example you can buy today from a Chinese seller of counterfeit coins. Note the die chip on the left wheat stalk on the reverse. Your coin probably has this, too.

So, how many relatively "inexpensive" coins have been confirmed counterfeited by the Chinese? I never thought I had to worry about counterfeit coins in my coin collecting realm, but I'm obviously wrong

The rim is also a give away as to being fake. The 1909-1917 cents had the Wider rim.
