Today while I was working at the place I volunteered I found a a blank planchet of a quarter in the cashier drawer along with a rainbow toned nickel while giving change to a customer. The planchet was beat up with scratches and residue but the nickel was a sight to behold. The manager in charge of the cashier thought they were counterfeit so she set them aside in the outer slot.I tried asking her to keep them, but sadly she said they had to "dispose" them properly so she can't give them to me. I walked home today very sad........

Should have offered to cover the 30 cents out of your own money.

Keep change in your pocket and use it to trade out the coins you come across.

I think 'dispose of properly' translates to 'thank for the tip-off' to

something that may be disirable. I've never had anybody use such a line on me.

It just doesn't make sense, particulaly with a lowly 5c.

I think it is possible that the Manager in Charge may have successfully sold you a pup.

Ask that individual how they were disposed of.
I suspect that you may get an evasive answer.

You may be able to pick these up with a small "donation". The group you volunteered to help may be willing to release the coins if you're willing to help their cause with a couple of bucks. Sweeten the offer to amount over face and they may be willing to allow you to "dispose of the items properly."

The chances of finding counterfeit coinage in today's markets are infinitesimal. In fact, if you ever found counterfeit coinage in current circulation, they would be rare enough to be worth more than the real thing, although selling them would probably be illegal.

I luckily never had to deal with that. I was at a register for a year and always brought change to swap if I ever found something in my register. Best find was a 1934 Quarter
