I took 10 silver eagles ms69 NGC to a local coin shop to try to sell cause lost interest in them, I keeped the nicest one and was trying to sell the rest. Well the coin dealer didn't want to buy them in the slab, he said his customers want bullion coins raw, he will only pay silver spot for them but with out the slab, That I had to remove the coins from the slab then take em back to him if I want to sell. He said he didn't want to remove the coins from the slab himself cause he could damage the coins and will have to ship to be melt cause nobody will want a scratch coin. And that he will lose money if he can't sell it for a profit in his shop. If he takes it to be melt he will get less because of melt process cost etc. And if I damage the coins then it will be my problem. So I guess is better to buy bullion raw. Before I used to sell them slab no problem but now it seams most dealers dont want to break the slabs themselves and customers are starting to hate slabs I guess. Maybe the Fab is passing. I havent unslab them yet, still thinking about it. Is it a good idea to break em open or try to sell em to somebody else in its slabs.

maybe it was him but most local coin stores will buy them with the slab. Try selling it here on the CCF.

why would you want to sell them for spot price.get enough posts under your belt , then you can offer them for sale on here.. you do not have to break them out of their cases, or sell them for spot. there is a bit of a premium for them depending on the dates..
Rest in Peace

You're LCS is just a bit player from "Grumpier Old Men". There are some folks buying high grade examples all the time. You just have one lazy dealer who's probably having a hard time staying afloat, has to compete w/ bigdog bullion outfits selling at $2.49 over spot. Bullion is the big seller now, people are scared of the upcoming crash and bought the hype of PM's but can't afford gold, only silver. Silver coinage is now looked at as bullion stacking, not "valuable" collector items until you go back two centuries. I'd have a real hard time cracking an NGC/PCGS MS69 slab, 20 years from now...15+ years is conservative investing, it may in effect a sizeable increase. You don't buy these kinds of coins "hoping to flip 'em", ain't gonna happen, my man!

Yeah, I'd tell the coin shop owner to KMA! Seems like he really didn't want them. MS69 ASE's always sell good on ebay and even with the fees and shipping you'll be ahead of just bullion cost!!

NGC and PCGS slabbed 69 and 70's ASE are one of the most collected series there is. Anyone who tells you otherwise is completely out of the current market.

Sell here when you can or ebay any time and even common date 69's will hit around $28-30, with better dates up from there.

Silliest coin shop dealer thing I've heard all day. Steer clear of that place.
Sell them slabbed, you'll do much better. Especially MS69's.

Don't crack them out! They are worth more than melt raw or slabbed, even if scratched!

Sell to someone else in slabs. That dealer gave you a complete run around with them. His story didn't even make any sense. If his customers want them raw to buy them as bullion it doesn't matter if they get a scratch from him cracking them.

Agreed. Leave them in the slabs. Cost has already been absorbed and now brings an added value in the marketplace.

Dealer's delusional.

Submit a roll of ASE, 70% come back MS-70. Most of the rest come back 69. Anyone that pays a premium for the rejects is a fool.
