I think I'm too "new" to post external links (to the news coverage), so I'll just mention the interesting hoard of late Roman (~460 AD) gold solidi that Dutch archaeologists unveiled last week (the coins were actually found in 2016 and 2012). Altogether, they found 42 coins, the latest from Majorian, in an orchard in Lienden (in the province of Gelderland). No contemporary human remains were found, so they presume it must have been in a pouch, not a burial; possibly one of the payments promised by the general Aegidius to Frankish kings who would fight with him in Gaul before the western empire completely imploded. Anyway, just a cool little perspective on some ancient history from numismatics!

I enlarged the photo of the solidi and had a very nice time staring at all those amazing gold coins.

They all look to be in high grade.
