Here's an 1818 Large Cent that came in the mail today. I took 2 sets of photos, both outdoors in natural light. The first set was in semi-shade, the second set was in full sun. I hope these are good enough for people to give a grading opinion.

My initial call is a super choice VF. As long as there's no porosity, I would say you did well, no matter the price as these coins are quite scarce with problem-free planchets.

The Full Sun picture, especially the reverse, makes the coin look a little "grainy". In hand & under magnification there is no porosity.

I'd say VF-20. There is a bit too much wear on Liberty's face and hair and on the obverse rim to go any higher. The word 'LIBERTY' is so deeply struck on these coins that it will be pretty clear even on coins grading G-04, so you can't use that as a grade indicator.

The full-sun photos give the coin a slight "cleaned" look which is probably misleading. The semi-shade shots are much more appealing IMO. As Prethen said, the planchet looks quite nice. Circulation marks are minimal and overall the coin is pretty attractive. Congrats!

Going third I have the advantage of seeing what others graded the coin. I concur with their thoughts. It is a very nice example of a VF coin with balanced strike and wear, and overall strong eye appeal. The lack of rim bumps, digs and gouges is a real plus. If the surfaces are original (and they look pretty good to me) then you've gotten a real gem.

Overall a wonderful addition to a collection. Congratulations.

I'll join the crowd. It looks VF-20 to me.

Very nice large cent!
