Posting this here for maximum exposure, since exposure is the question. Mods, if you can figure out a better place for all forum(s) exposure, please move this post. CCF is THE most popular coin forum on the internet. Not only for info sharing and learning over the vast spectrums of numismatics, but also stamp collectig as well. Why then don't more folks avail themselves of what CCF has to offer? The libraries for references, sharing of knowledge among us, the insightful and fun contests and my major point, the sales offers among members are ALL top of the line, A1, 100%, Neat/cool/groovy (I'm dated) and out of this world! I've run contests, but had to shift from a "learning" experience to that of an entertain guessing game, the easier I made it...the more involved people were. Very few chose to pick up The Red Book and work out my "Eddie the Eagle" a while back. Same with another members thought-inducing contest recently had few entrants. I've also had many "For Sale" item to CCF members (not the only one either), that are offered here at greatly reduced rates before putting on other venues like ebay, at much higher rates. So, fellow members, young & old , new or cold... ( ), partake of these forum pluses! They are here for you to learn and have fun doing it, I guarantee it'll be a lot more interesting than just "going to school" in today's world! Edited by Crazyb0 06/26/2017 1:17 pm

I enjoyed the "guess the weight" contest! I did look at the a-z note game, but I was completely out of my league there since notes only pass (very quickly) through my wallet. It looked like a lot of fun for those in the know.
I imagine there are many on the forum like me who work long hours and skim the topics fairly rapidly. They may not see all the contests every time. But I am very appreciative for the great folks on this forum and the things I learn here.

You're a good egg Crazy! Everything is OK. I enjoy your posts. Sometimes members don't get into contests and guess the prices. Everyone has their own little niches and interests. This place is like a big city. Some like to paint the town while others stay in their own neighborhood. There are places here, I wouldn't dare go. I've heard of the dark side coin collector gang. They sound kinda rough to me. Then there's the ancients ( I am not that old of a coin collector yet ) and errors, well, everyone can be wrong some of the time but there's really something wrong with the coins they collect ... that's all I have to say about that.

I guess I'm one of those who "paints the town." I skim (read) pretty much everything and keep an eye on the new and active topics. I generally don't comment on ancients, UK, Australian and Canadian coins/currency because I know very little about them. If I can help in those in a more general way, I'll try. I also don't actively engage in grading topics for the most part because I'm not that good at it. I view them to see what others say though. I really like contributing to Error topics and like the challenge of figuring out Unidentified coins/tokens whether I know anything about them or not (usually not). As far as contests, I try to engage in all that are available to me. Even though GTP doesn't have an actual prize, I enjoy it and happen to be tied at the top this time (my first full season). Fingers crossed on Round 10! I was pretty disappointed to see no other participation in the Banknote Contest. I am by no means experienced with world banknotes, it just takes a little googling/time. I actually only submitted guesses for 3 of the 26 letters! If two other members had just guessed "Mexico" for X (pretty obvious I think) we all would have won prizes.

I stopped visiting the contest section* because every contest I wanted to enter was limited to the US (or rarely, US and Canada). I no longer bother checking the new ones, nor do I intend to hold new ones myself. I somehow I do not recall that being the case years before. I did visit the sales section recently and I've got to say I agree with you. I was rather surprised: the prices were good but there wasn't that much demand... *except for Guess the Price, of course

@crazyb0, I just noticed this thread now. I too have certain areas where I tend to hang out (and evidently, this isn't one of those places). I actually thought that those paper money contests were wicked hard. I'm not really into collecting bills and so didn't have a good place to start. There was one contest a couple years ago with morse code that I spent hours and hours on, but I seem to have less time for them now.

Forums in general are in decline with the rise of sites like Facebook. CCF is one of very few that is still going strong. I'd love to see more active participants since forums I think offer a very rich environment for learning and constructive discussion.

Everyone has their own reasons for signing up here. Some come here to learn. Others come for comradery. Because of the capital requirements, it's not wise to share pics of your collection on Facebook or even share with friends that you are a coin collector. It makes you target. CCF provides an anonymous platform that enables us to share our love of coins with other enthusiasts while remaining 'in the closet' from our friends and family.
Contests for freebees, just doesn't interest me and I feel my time is better spent in other sections. I signed up here to learn in an interactive environment.
On the selling section: I think what hurts this section is that we spend so much time coaching one another on how to be savvy buyers that we become conditioned to only buy coins when they are a screaming steal.

Interesting post. I really never think about to many other forums. I see there are a lot of them but most don't apply to me so I just don't bother.

Facebook is for those who like that way of communicating. CCF is much more about sharing knowledge. I Would much rather share knowledge than just chit - chat. Use Facebook or whatever for personal communication.
