Hello I have recently found a Washington quarter which is possibly an error coin. I received the Quarter from change given from breaking a bill at a local store. I collect coins but I do not know a lot about them. This would be my first error coin if it is that. Research led me to this website to find some insight and after an introduction to this sight I was told to post pics of the coin to This particular forum for the information I am trying to obtain. So attached are my pics if you need more or different angles or would like to give me some information it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Sheena

It's got a lot of environmental damage for sure. Can you do a closeup of all parts of coin including reverse?

Clearly need more closeup pics. But the date does look like it reads 19899.

I agree the date looks like 1989. Modern die preparation makes it impossible for an extra digit to be added to the date; that really hasn't happened since the days when dies were individually engraved by hand (1500s and earlier).

Most likely that blob next to the last 9 is just corrosion. It could be a blob of metal from a die gouge.
Rest in Peace

But the damage does look deceptively like an extra number.

No harm in asking, though.

And

Closer photos of the date required. Cut everything out of your photo except the date if you camera doesn't do macro.
