Maybe someone can help enlighten me on what happened with this penny. To me it looks like an eight or a B. It's difficult to get a picture of it on the reverse side, but in the right light it seems like a similar 8 shape. It also seems to appear on the edge.

Those are commonly referred to as 'bag marks'. It's just damage from one coin hitting another. I always thought they looked like little bite marks.

Contact marks. They come in all shapes and sizes. Not considered part of the strike, but rather occurred after strike. Thanks, Doug.
