I bought this coin about 4 years ago and I was sooooo.... excited to have a 04S that I didn't see the obverse scratch until the next day ! overall it's a nice coin, but we live and learn. please grade it with mercy.

Hey Cuprous,
I'll be putting on a Barber grading program for our next coin club meeting, so hopefully I know something about these coins!

The toning hides some of the detail but I think this one meets the criteria for EF-40. The edges of the Liberty band appear well-defined and the lower olive leaves are mostly outlined. Wear is evident on the high points of the cap, leaves, and hair above Miss Liberty's brow. There are some tiny pits or contact marks on the cheek but I don't think those are severe enough to qualify as damage.

On the reverse, all details in the wreath are clear and light wear is visible on the leaf high points. If there is some luster present under the tone this coin might even deserve an EF-45.

I see a light scratch across a few of the upper olive leaves and what might be a couple pin scratches behind Liberty's head. In this photo it really doesn't look bad. The toning is a bit dark but doesn't strike me as artificial.

Overall, you have a presentable example of this scarce date. These are really hard to find in higher circulated grade.
