Hello,

I'm new to coincommunity.com and am soliciting advise on a 2007 D Lincoln Memorial penny. On the reverse, I see a distinct set of lines that are similar to the stairs on the Lincoln Memorial. Please view photos. Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

They look like Linear Plating Bubbles to me. Gas trapped under the plating. Should smash flat when pressed.

to the forum!

Wow, you found a "shiny" Zincoln TEN years after minting...saw very, very few of his "brother's" in same shape in last box...sad.

Liner Plating bubbles are formed when the thin copper plate is applied to the zinc blank. Gasses and other elements get trapped and then chemically react to cause what is known as "zinc rot", the powderizing of zinc.
