In the process of assembling a collection of Low Ball coins based on PCGS's Registry Set; copper, nickel and silver. Have fallen in love with these forgotten coins and enjoy the hunt in findng them in the lowest possible grade. Anyone else share my enthusiasm?

to the forum Billn! Any way you can show and tell, be interested to see how you're doing it. My "Expanded" 7070 set is a lower-ball (grade) set on the older 18th century because for most part is all I can afford on limited income! I'd NEVER be fortunate enough to come close to what some CCF members are able to assemble. BTW, call it "expanded", since adding adding additional examples of the changes within coin sets of the 20th & 21st Centuries (Clear and filed "S" & Wide rim on SBA's) and a couple very neat nickel sets.

IMO, it should be easier to find the smaller denominations in P01 for a decent price than the larger denominations.

Many of my early US coins are low grades due to my limited funds set aside for these purchases. I'm not sure that I would describe this as "enthusiasm" as you clearly have.

I can well appreciate the challenge, but this really doesn't do it for me.

It's finding the particular coins per PCGS's set composition in the lowest possible grade that I find challenging.

Maybe Mr. Frog needs a kiss... BillN, Whoa! When said Lowball...! Only because I've bid on some of those exact coins (mostly lost..to you perhaps?) I'd say I like it. I'm no where near that level of all PO/FR's tho. If I try to take a pix, would come out like yours, only worse. Don't have mine labeled yet, just put 'em in new clothes last week. Looking good.

Hey, no disrespect intended. I'm an old guy and this basically goes against my instincts as a collector, and so I'm just saying so.

I'm afraid I have to say, with Coinfrog 100%. It hurts my eyes to look at coins that are that worn down. But to each his own.

I'm trying to think of one other collecting field of any kind where owning the worst example would be considered a success.

Well I didn't expect such negativity, but I should have known they forums are usually full of it, in more ways that one. Having said that I'm removing myself from this community.

Don't run off Bill! This is a great community. Let me apologize for my fellow members. You're catching us on a holiday weekend when most are out of town. I think it's cool what you're doing. I have a lot of lowball coins and I find those more interesting than my higher grade sets. Don't be so easily discourage by old farts like CoinFrog. (still love you though,Frog). You will encounter snobs on every coin forum you visit. CCf has a great membership base with many, many active users. My first post here was about an 1893 CC silver dollar I owned since I was a kid. Most called it a fake but a few coached me on how to prove otherwise. Guess what? It was real. Relax, stick around, and we look forward to your participation. You'll learn a lot here from honest opinions. Opinions being the key word. Sometimes folks need to learn when to plant their foot into their own mouths. to CCF!
