I was searching the web for nice coins, while I was bored on my long tour bus ride.I encountered these guys below and made a part trade part cash deal, making it easier for my wallet. What you guys think? Hormizd II. AD. 302-309. AR Drachm Obverse: Bust right, wearing eagle crown with korymbos. Reverse: Fire altar with ribbon and bust left in flames; flanked by two attendants, the left wearing winged crown * With Sassanian coins their flans are so thin creating a bunch of promblemo either with the striking or details of the portrait, always have to have something wrong but this one is almost promblem free. I like how you can see the smile on the altar attendants face. Ptolemy III Euergetes, 246-222 BC Alexandria mint. Obverse: Head of Zeus-Ammon right, wearing tainia Reverse: Eagle standing on thunderbolt * My first gigantic ancient cool ahaahahhha........

Good idea I could make it one of my giveaway questions! It's bigger than 33 mm though.

Wow! Two of my favorite coins types. The Hormizd II is one of the nicest examples that I've seen. You can even see the fold in the pants of the attendants. This coin has been on my want list for a long time, but I haven't been able to afford one. Hope this link works, here is one on Sassanian coinage. http://web.archive.org/web/20140326092955/http://www.grifterrec.com/coins/sas...asanian.htmlI love the large bronze Ptolemaic coins. Yours is an excellent example. What is the size and weight? I can't quite make out the letter between the eagles legs. What is it? You may already be aware of this link but I'll add it just encase your not: http://ptolemybronze.com/Congratulations on two super coins.

Thanks echizento, I traded off my two NGC fatty holder Morgans, making me pay only a small fraction out of the coin's cost more. Compared to vcoins and other sites it's still below retail. There's a monogram in between the legs of the eagle, for what it means I'm still uncertain.Okay I'll give the weight and diameter I'll find different questions for the giveaway. The diameter of the Polematic coin is 39-40 mm and the weight is 44.8 grams. ( The eagle is showing off its muscles) For the Sassanian coin it's so cool that one attendant has a smiley face one has an evil face.

If you can make out the monogram we might be able to pin point the mint.

I was told by the seller it was a coin from the Alexandria Mint in Egypt. Unless there are multiple mints in one city?, then we have to go more in depth.

There were a few different mints indicated by different marks. Your coin from the size and weight appears to be a Tetrobol from the Plain series 4 from Alexandria. This series will have the following marks:
No mark - Svornos 1172 L - Svoronos 1166 E (var)- Svornos 974, most common A no reference C no reference
Most of the ones I have are E, I do have one C.

Awesome pick-ups! I'm especially a fan of that Hormizd II. The "Ahura Mazda in the fire" theme has always been fascinating to me.
