The last coin I got at the sale. Its very nice, not sure if it would make uncirculated, but definitely no less than high AU. What do you think this one grades?

The fields are sunken with a concavity vs. the rim and the entire coin has a very rough, pitted texture suggesting corrosion, possibly saltwater corrosion, or a strike from extremely rusty/worn dies at the end of their life. I believe it is more likely environmental damage than a terminal die state.

I'll go AU-50 , But I don't like most of the lettering on reverse .

The reverse lettering is odd. Otherwise an AU coin.

That the reverse letters from 6-9:00 seem strange. Possibly from pressure after mintage.

If that area isn't considered, nor the field pitting (which is not ED, but dyeing dies) it would be right at 53.

Unless your photos are terrible, that coin would be lucky to get VF money.

Striking issue plague around the peripheral for Mercury dimes especially when the die starts to worn out, so many examples are similar to this one. But this has the appearance of harsh cleaning on the obverse, more at the high point area, it then toned back over time and hided the imperfection areas.

How often do you see pitted coins with luster? Leaning toward terminal die state rather than environmental damage due to remaining luster. Still Au details for me. Surfaces don't look right.

I've seen many pitted coins from rusted dies with luster. Agree deteriorated die state here.
