1879 O Morgan For Grading (In Hand) And 1912 S $5 Indian

Got the 79 O today looks an easy 63/64. Seller pics hid a few things but the coin has solid details. 1912 S is my mothers but she finally allowed me to take it to a jeweler and have the bezel removed without damaging it. I think the 1912 S is a high AU low unc. Thoughts on grades for both?

The 79-O looks 63. The gouge in the neck kinda sucks but goes with the territory.

On the 12-S you can tell it is ex-jewelry by the sunken area around the rim on both sides. As gold is very soft the bezel leaves it's "fingerprint" on the coin that way. It will grade AU details ex-jewelry.

Both are still nice coins though and I wouldn't be ashamed of either one of them!

I agree with MS-63 on the Morgan but it nearly smells cleaned. The obverse, in particular, looks like some luster is gone from a dip. It's almost impossible to tell for sure from photos only. Rotating in under light would answer that question.

Gold is so soft that it almost always suffers when bezeled. It's still a lovely 53 but would detail from the rim damage.

I still like both of these. No shame for either of them.

The gold may not detail. 1912S had serious die issues. The bezel wasn't clamped on thankfully, but encased around it without touching it. It's 50/50

2) AU-55, quite possibly Details.

'79 O: Because of the heavy dings on the obverse, MS62; it would be an easy MS64 otherwise.

1912 S ms62. He very certain that this coin will straight grade like 80% certain
