The way the 8 is flattened, it took a hit (or two) from something. It looks like the hit displaced the metal to make this anomaly.

It not hiding anything. It nothing but PMD (Post Mint Damage). Not worth any extra. Worth 1 cent.

The 1968 coins suffered from extreme die wear. As dies wear, the metal flows outward from the continued pelting of die on coins. The dies are removed and "repaired" to increase life use. The face is polished off and cleaned from any damage incurred. the edges have to be ground also because the metal flow has made them wider. This makes the outer devices such as letters and dates actually touch and wrap up the rim imprint. The devices also become wider (Thicker) from the stretching. If you compare the size of the 1968 bust to a later 70's cent you will see the size difference.
