I've known for a couple weeks now and finally decided to post about it. I do feel like this is a family and you all have been very supportive to me. Ultimately, it took a biopsy to determine that it was indeed cancer. Fortunately, it seems that it has been caught pretty early and I think the outlook is good. She turns 63 this year. It is a form of breast cancer called DCIS or Ductal Carcinoma in situ. It's classified as non-invasive and Stage 0. She will be having a mastectomy on August 9th and I will be travelling to be with her during and after. I've been around hospitals quite a bit when I was younger with aging family members but this is the first time I've dealt with cancer in my family. I only ask that everyone send positive thoughts to NE Texas. In Memory of Crazyb0 12-26-1951 to 7-27-2020 In Memory of Tootallious 3-31-1964 to 4-15-2020 In Memory of T-BOP 10-12-1949 to 1-19-2024

Thoughts and prayers too, My friend. Sounds like a fighting chance and caught early. Seems medicine has come a long way in even ten years.

That is one call I hope I never get. I am hoping for the best. If caught early, it gives hope.

I know what you are going through and my thoughts and prayers to your mom.
Overall successful treatment rate for DCIS is close to 100%, so I'm sure all will be fine.

My thoughts are with your mother, you, and the rest of your family.
They are getting better at eradicating cancer. I was treated for stage 4 adenocarcinoma discovered in 2013. Still cancer free in 2017. Yes, it was treated like breast cancer in chemotherapy.
I wish her the best.

Hey, spruett001, your mom is young and she was diagnosed early - I'm sure her prognosis is good. My wife's mom just finished cancer treatment 3 weeks ago. Keep your mom busy. Keep her positive. Answer every question she asks honestly. My thoughts are with you and your family.

You have my positive thoughts and prayers.
I was treated for colon cancer in December 2014 and I know what it's like to be diagnosed, but if they caught it early, the prognosis should be good.
