OK, here is one of my favorite coins. I think the dealer I bought it from didn't really want to sell. He offered me a lifetime buy-back privilege if I ever decide that I'd rather have the cash. I'll keep it in mind!

Anyone want to determine a grade? It's in a TPG slab.

Wow...beautiful coin! I don't know squat about grading these, but it must be at least MS63-64.

Mother nature sure did a nice job of cramming the entire rainbow this coin ! Wonderful strike characteristics, very few light marks and original

It sure deserves a MS64

Recently saw a slabbed 1834 of same and it was more BN on rev.and graded PCGS MS-64RB as I recall. I think it was a little better in the obv. fields. I don't collect this area, but I would be interested in the company and grade. I would expect the 63-65 range depending on the graders.

I'm going to guess MS63. The mark on the cheek keeps it from a 64 I think. The color and luster look wonderful, as do the near perfect stars and hair detail. Anyway, like I said, it's just a guess.

The grade is NGC MS-65 BN. The reverse has abundant bright RB color. However, the obverse has toned a deep bluish-brown shade and there is essentially no original red. Luster on this coin is exceptionally intense for an early copper, with full cartwheels on both sides.

Great example. Any guesses for the reason for the difference in color between obverse and reverse? Does this indicate it sat stored against a piece of cloth or something else that would oxidize one side more than the other?
