My buddy got this in a deal with some spectacular Morgan's which I'll post later. Weight is good non magnetic and looks good compared to others, has luster I'm thinking au50/53. Thoughts?

Also weakness in the reverse stars is common and is seen on PCGS examples too.

Genuine. Old cleaning that probably would be market acceptable. I like it, but I don't see a grade any higher than 40.

There's more luster on the coin than a xf. It may have been cleaned long ago, it's my buddies he is gonna send it out to PCGS next week. It passed all my tests.

Luster is a secondary concern. Degree of circulation is primary. This is showing more circulation than a AU.

I'd say EF-45 and market acceptable, but these days it wouldn't surprise me to see it in a 50 holder.

It would surprise me to see this in a NGC holder as AU. PCGS has been harder on BHD the last year or so as they were getting flak for consistent 5-10 point higher grades than their own photo grades. I'm not really sure how PCGS is grading now.

I have a question. Under what conditions would a 212 year old silver coin tone bright chalky white the way we see on the reverse of this coin?

That's what I would say as well. The cleaning might even knock it down to 35.

VF-35. The old cleaning, which does not amount to much, comes with the territory on these coins.

XF40 to me. Market acceptable, I would agree, although it's not to my particular tastes. I see she's got a bit of clash under the chin and some die cracks on the reverse that might allow you to make an attribution.
