I picked up some nickels and 10 rolls were intact and 2014-P. Wonder if I should open them and pick out the 10 nicest coins and send in for grading, hoping to get a 68 or better from them. Thoughts?
Rest in Peace

Pull the best and let us see them. Free opinions will help you decide if they are worth the TPG fees.

Yeah, cause if I read the PCGS pop report right they have only graded 3 68's so far. Don't know about the other TPG's.

I'm sure you already know but make sure you're looking for Full Steps.

Plus if you do find one, I would consider ANACS. They usually have specials.

It's unlikely there are any that are MS-68 or above, but you never know! Keep us posted

Went through 3 rolls and these were 3 of the 6 I thought were nicest. The problem I saw with every coin is they had some type of water spotting or something similar to that on the coin.

I tried to find coins with no nicks on the front or back and coins with no rim nicks.

I'd say the last coin is the best of the three.

shotgung, I don't think it's water spots. If they were, a little acetone would take it off. It's probably carbon spots/deposits. If it is, I don't thing it's coming off.

Just curious - how difficult is it to find high mint state coins in rolls? Mine always seem to be pretty dinged and discolored, even in original rolls.

Depends what you mean by high mint state....68's, 69's? Very hard in my opinion. It also depends on the years you're looking for. The late date coins you find in circulation are probably in better condition.
