I've had this coin for years just noticing the possible error. I know there were a lot of mm errors that year it may be one of them. It almost looks like a triple to me. What do y'all think?

A wonderful case of it being a smart thing to keep something odd. Your coin sense was working

Definitely see a triple D. However, the lower cleft does have a scratch in the mix, fortunately the top cleft doesn't. Keep in mind that a mint Mark doesn't have to be listed to exist! There are tons of mint marks out there. I would double check the rest of the coin REAL CLOSE, obverse and reverse, for double dies... You never now! Just in case.

Willburton,

Good Eyes to detect that inspite of all the spotting on the coin and smart to save it.

What you have is a Triple repunched MM 1957 WRPM-009 RPM#9 DDD Rotated CW & CCW. Here is a close up shot of the one I have showing the tripling on yours. This is EDS ,yours seem to be a Mid to LDS with a die gouge below the 9 of date!

You can at least get the surface dirt off with a soft cloth before you 2x2 it!

It isn't 009. The D is too far east (more under the 5). Plus, Variety Vista has images for die states up to Stage H and none have the gouge below the 9 or off the lower serif of the D.

Sorry to keep posting on this one but I've looked at all the mint marks I could find and can't find a perfect match the most distinguishing feature on the coin is a large die crack left wheat stem to edge and the two die gouges near the mm. Here's a couple more pics comparing mine to a couple others. If it is a possible new mm Should I send it in? Once again thanks guys!!
