I recently got this coin from my cousin because she had two of them. I read that it is made of silver and could be precious. Can you tell if it's real about the pictures?

It looks very "mushy" and very suspicious. What is the weight (should be 25 grams), and is it attracted to a magnet?

I believe genuine pieces have lettering on the edge and not reeding.

It feels kinda "heavy", but it is attracted to the magnet. So it's probably fake :/ I don't know why I didn't thought about the magnet test. Thanks for the help. :)

That is absolutely a numismatic forgery - a centrifugal casting. There are many clues that have been discussed at length before.

The edges are ground down (rounded). There is an arc seam - a telltale mark of a transfer mold on the left side of the reverse and the upper part of the obverse. The design is mushy and lacks sharpness of details. Also note the extra metal that appears at the top of the right arm of the cross on the shield.

Of course the killer is the lettered edge - but all collectors need to familiarize themselves with the appearance of this coin and those like it. These are the cheap copies made in China that are flooding the market and have been a thorn in the side of serious collectors for several decades now. These are essentially worthless metal scrap.

I was about to comment on this coin, but then declined because I intended to post genuine vs. fake pictures. But my samples of this coin are 1878 instead of 1873.

Here's the reverse, gen left and fake right- I didn't take very good pics of my fake so it looks a lot different than yours.

In my case both have edge lettering, fake is below. However, many of my fakes that should have edge letters are reeded like this one the OP posted.

Like many other lettered edge forgeries - the lettering is poorly done. To letter an edge most mints use a Castang machine of some sort. Letters are rarely out of line or of variable depth. This one looks almost like the letters were hand punched.
