This 1920 Buffalo nickel is for sale on ebay. The title indicates it's a 1920-D, but the description says 1920-S in one part and 1920-D in another. I cannot tell from the photo of the reverse. Can you? Also, what grade would you give it? This is a problem coin. The MM is illegible and cannot be identified unless there are other markers. The coin has a graffiti like scratch on its back. Looks high au or low ms details damaged. I would pass and look for a better one if they are asking au58 money.

Uncleaned and no hint of dipping. Decent strike, but a fair amount of Die Deterioration, especially on the reverse. Grade at 55. I'd bet on the D, even though it's really hard to see.

Stay away from this coin ,too many issues ,obverse and reverse . Looks to me as a details coin .

It is a D. This is a very late die state coin, with extensive flow lines. The reason the MM is all distorted is clear if you look at the letters F and S in FIVE and CENTS -- die trails to the rim. I see no signs of cleaning mechanically although a dip or recolor job may have been carried out.
The lines to the right of the hind legs are planchet striations / heavy flow lines caused by the metal being "stretched" as it attempts to fill the dies, which have deteriorated and sunken.
I would grade this coin AU 55.

The owner wrote back and said it's Denver. As is typical for many sellers, he did not thank me for pointing out the errors in his listing. And in my experience, lack of courtesy = lack of customer satisfaction. It's amazing how many businesses, large and small, leave money on the table because they do not treat their customers with respect and common courtesy.
