I'm skeptical that's it legit. Looks to be an added S. Please keep us updated on what ANACS says and if they say it's fake, on how well the seller handles your money back guarantee.

i did my best first attempt at creating a GIF that would compare an overlay of NGC's plate coin for position 4 with my coin. It is not perfectly to scale, so there is some play. I made it and the file was too large. I had to reduce it by reducing the color quality, so a drastic reduction in color....I made a much better quality GIF and removed the old one. Let me know what you all think of the coin using this new bit of data.

I just wanted to give this thread one last bump to see if any other members were willing to share their expertise on this matter. Thank you.

This would appear to be Die Pair #3 and genuine.

After watching your presentation you are saying that the date and MM are flattening from circulation? Kind of convincing especially with the position of the V.D.B.
And isn't it die pair 4 with the S lower than the tail of the first 9 and closer to the 0 than also the first 9?

Die pair 4 in my opinion as well.

Die Pairs 3 and 4 are very similar. I believe it is 3, but more important, it seems to be genuine.

After looking closer at your pictures and looking at die pair #4 cents on the internet it's looking more to exhibit "real" VDB-S characteristics. If not for those scratches under the MM and the discoloration around it, there would be no question. And that's my final answer! Copied off the internet: "Position 3 - S further to right, centered under left edge of 0. Top of S even with bottom of 9. S tilted to right." "Position 4 - S centered under left half of 0. S is well below bottom of 9 in the date and is upright."

Big Silver: that is an interesting progression. Can you create a gif of the first and last only and not so fast a progression?

A serious question: is there anyone who collects all the die pairs of this coin? Or is the existence of different die pairs simply academic?

@999fine To your 1st post, I am not very capable in GIF making, I will try to make what you said... To your second post. I doubt that many are trying to get all the pairs. The discussion was rooted in the fact that unless a coin matches a known pairing, it is not genuine.....

Quote: is there anyone who collects all the die pairs of this coin? Not me - I'm just happy to have the one I have (#4), plus if my wife found out I spent 6000$ on 4 Lincoln cents I'd be talking in a much higher octave!
